In a small village in the mountains of Córdoba, a group of women gather every week to find the best way to perform an unknown popular uprising led by other women a long time in the past: the “Bread Riot of Cordoba” that began on the hot afternoon of 6 May 1652.
While they try to recreate that old story, their gestures and words awaken the resonances of their own experiences of struggle and resistance, reminding them of their hard hours of work, the countless hardships they suffered for being women in those small towns in rural Cordoba, their own memory of the war, the dictatorship and hunger, and also the memory of their grandmothers.
Connecting the memory of women’s struggles of all times, the essays of the revolt become an invocation to the forces of the spirits of all those women who fought in the past. At the same time, these actions of the rehearsals shed light on the words and gestures of today’s women’s struggles and also help us to imagine those fights of the future that we still have to handle.
